Sleep Drive, Day 1

We've decided to hold the first annual parent's sleep drive. We're soooo tired, and always staying up late working, cleaning, cooking, (blogging), etc. etc. So this week the rule is that we have to be in bed no later than 30 minutes after the girls, no matter what.

Calliope slept like a champ last night, straight through until 6. Clementine, on the other hand, was up 4 times, fussy, inarticulate, or crawling into bed with us. Hoping for a better night tonight, and glad we did go to bed so early last night or we'd have been miserable today.

So... Calliope seems to have started talking. She says "Mama" (Entirely in one context: wandering around the house shouting it. I never hear her say it otherwise.), "Dada", "uh-oh" (ADORABLE), and is working on "hot", which she also signs by waving and turning her hand back and forth over her head, particularly cute if you know the ASL sign. We must quick get video of baby talk because I think it will end soon. :(

Well, I'm up 10 minutes past curfew. 'Night!

Turning Points

A number of things seem to have changed lately, which together seem add up to a significant inflection point...

First, we used to eat like Audrey and Ryan plus a little more. Now, we really have to cook for a family of 3 (or if Calliope's hungry, 4).

Coincident with that, we are at the point where we have to do more than one load of dishes a day. This also comes with the fact that Ryan and I have lunch at home, along with the nanny. I have no idea how to deal with this, as there is time in the day to unload once, but not twice!

Also fun, Calliope and Clementine are finally at the point where they can make messes faster than I can clean them up. Until now, if I was cleaning something, and they were elsewhere messing something up, as long as they were happy it was fine. I figured overall I was time ahead, versus trying to clean while they were clinging or hungry or whatever. No longer!! They've got me beat, suddenly, by a mile.

Clementine has started to lie. This truly 3-year-old behavior has caught us completely off guard, and it's the hallmark of an overall behavior change that has us dealing with a little girl. Or trying to deal with a little girl. The simple days of potty training are over; never thought I'd be nostalgic for them!
