Ugh, upon return from the Creative Good Councils in San Francisco, I promptly got the most incredible stomach flu. This was probably at least partly guilt because Clementine got her first stomach flu ever while I was gone (waaaah) and partly lack of sleep because they had us booked every single minute so to see any friends or do any shopping I was up very late and very early. I think I slept 7 hours total the last 48 hours in San Francisco.
Anyway turns out mommy with the stomach flu brings the whole household to a full and complete stop. In fairness this was the worst stomach flu I've ever had, second only to my encounter with
castor oil. But Calliope is such a light sleeper every time I had to make a run for it she woke up. Ryan was already exhausted and couldn't deal with any more midnight wakings, and yet Calliope wasn't sleeping and Clementine wasn't doing all that well either. It was a bad, bad, bad, bad night. I took the next day off but wasn't really feeling myself for another 4 days. Bleh.
Calliope remains a terrible sleeper. She wakes at the slightest noise, and also every 4 hours. So we put her down at 8, she's up at midnight, we put her down again, she's up at 3 or 4, I nurse her in bed until 6, back to her crib until 7:30, then she's up until 9, when she's ready for her first nap. It's not really bad unless I'm up until 1 or 2, then it's pretty hard. On one hand I wish she'd sleep, but on the other I'm working full time and I feel like maybe this is important time for her and I. Still, it's been 10 or 11 months since I have slept the night through. I never would have thought I could handle such a thing.
And finally, we had Calliope's 9-month appointment. She's gone from the 23rd percentile at birth, down to 6th percentile at 6 months and 3rd percentile now. If I'd been at all positive about wanting to go ahead, the ped would have ordered blood tests. You do not want to see your little baby have blood taken. So we're waiting until her 1-year appointment, and in the meantime we have the ok to introduce cheese. Calliope is now on a steady diet of whole-milk yogurt, bread and butter, vegetables with olive oil and cheese poured over them, chevre, oatmeal with cream and butter, and french toast made with egg yolks and cream... Yummy. I am finding myself looking at nutrition labels to see what has the highest calorie content. It's kind of fun. I just need to be careful not to finish her leftovers! So fingers crossed that she'll be up at her next appointment.
