San Diego and First Day of "School"
Well we are back from San Diego safe and sound. Travel days were pretty terrible -- coming back we flew into Albuquerque, visited Aunt Millie and Uncle Norman (hit by a car on their tandem last month, egads!), then drove the ~4 hours to Durango. Clementine didn't go to sleep in the car until 10:30 at night. It was pretty bad.
But the beach... ah the beach! And ethinic food! And friends! And Ikea! And the hotel! They served breakfast and dinner, there was always coffee ready, everyone was so nice. I want to move in to a Residence Inn. Surely there's a market for retirement-like communities for young professionals where they do some cooking and cleaning... throw in some childcare and sign me up!
Calliope really blossomed in the last week. She is smiling and laughing all the time, very very squirmy, and also rolling over at will. She's started sleeping in a crib or bed instead of a swing, and is so intent on getting everything within (and out of reach) into her mouth she's in a near-constant state of frustration: "I...must...get...couch...into...my...MOUTH!!"
Anyway, Clementine went to daycare today for the first time. We finally got to the top of a list! Of course now I'm sure that it's all a terrible mistake, too early, etc. etc. It's really just 2 half-days a week, it's not much time. And I know she'll have a great time and Ryan will have a break and be able to work more and blah blah blah, but it still broke my heart. She didn't cry too much. We hear the 2nd time is harder, once they see that it's going to keep happening. We'll see. I'll try not to expect that it will be hard. Anyway, she seems to have had fun, didn't cling to Ryan when he came to get her, and enjoyed the slide, which evidently is pretty much all she did. She didn't nap although everyone else did. But that's a lot to expect on a girl's first day. I took pictures, will post when I find the camera. :-\
