More travel

We're just back from a trip to Durango and Santa Fe for Berv and Keri's wedding. Clementine starting walking more than crawling, and had a really great time in Durango with so many adults around to hang out with and cater to her every whim. She's having a hard time being down to just 2 adults around to cater to her every whim. We went to the Recreation Center in Durango, which has kid-sized water slides and toys, and that was great fun.

Santa Fe was fun too, though Ryan was very busy. Clementine sat enraptured through the night-before musical and was great at the wedding. We swam a lot. :)

She's talking and signing up a storm. Now she has all the signs from her videos (like candy, which we never sign and never give her. Well, except chocolate...) and says things like "mango" and "alligator". She's also starting to develop choice / preferences. I bought her a ball from a big basket of balls, and she had to have the green one, no other would do. So that's pretty fun. She is learning to play the harmonica and likes to stand on her head.

We're hoping that she continues to love babies, because here it is, the official announcement, hot off the presses and sucking its little thumb:

Baby was quite wiggly, then got hold of that thumb and sucked happily for the duration. I hope that's a sign. :)

Finally, a post!

Been a busy month... A quick update:

  • started signing 'yes' a few days ago, after months of proficiency with 'no' (yes looks like she's dinging the bell on a trolley, very cute. Requests now look like, "Signing Time Video, please, yes yes yes yes yes...")
  • started fibbing ("Are you tired?" "No." rub rub rub yawn)
  • started climbing, onto couches, and most importantly window seats. We now have to keep all the windows closed.
  • started forming sentences (Ok, just one: "Me baby.")
  • started telling me about her day. For instance, I was holding her and Ryan was telling me about how she fell off a step. While he was telling the story, she signed "Hurt" and pointed to the steps!
  • started speaking Czech (our friend Madla speaks Czech to her). She says "achee", which evidently means "sit" and "chee chee" which means kitty. She may speak more Czech, but how would we know?
  • started throwing tantrums, including stomping and throwing herself on the ground. Of course signing helps some with this -- she isn't frustrated that she can't ask for things, but she's still frustrated when she can't have what she asks for.
